All While Saving Money & Making the environment Happy
Ok, here is a fun fact for you over 80,000 chemicals are in use today just in the United States alone! And a study published in National Library of Medicine showed that toxic chemicals are messing with our thyroid health. This study done over 5 years estimated that thyroid disease has gone up by around 35%.
For example, Triclosan in washing liquid; parabens in shampoo and skin care, glycol ethers also in skincare, and BPA is in so many food and beauty packaging. It can make it hard to avoid them!
Most toxins interrupt the endocrine system by disrupting its normal function. They act like copycats, mimicking hormones normally produced in the body and this causes confusion – the body to stop making its natural hormones. Some even impact the thyroid directly which is responsible for so many of the hormone happenings in our body.
Top 5 places in your home leading to unhappy hormones:
- Household cleaners: Chlorine, ammonia, glycol ethers, triclosan, fragrances to name a few.
- Personal care products: Parabens, Phthalates, Toulene, fragrances, artificial colours and flavours, antibacterial agents, sodium lauryl sulfates and PEGs.
- Feminine products: most main stream feminine products contain – fragrances, pesticide-soaked cotton, harsh adhesives, plastics, artificial colours, bleaches, and even petroleum-based foams.
- Food: pesticides and GMOs.
- Water: Chlorine and fluoride.
And here is a bonus for you and a real trigger for thyroid issues, and what led to my thyroid issues (see my video below this post for the story)… MOULD! This is the number 1 trigger of thyroid issues, as well as huge hormonal and emotional changes. Hello 2020!
So what can we do? Start small. Start with one area, or one product and work your way up. That is how I did it.
Here’s where to start with the home:
1. Castile soup: This is great and can be used for almost anything, just add some essential oils. I use it for my washing liquid, for my hand soap and for my body wash. Its cheap, lasts for ages and you can pop in your fav essential oils, depending on what you are using it for.
2. Oils: Oils have so many great uses including cleaning, diffusing, washing etc. My 3 fav oils are grapefruit, lavender and eucalyptus. I love grapefruit for my hand and body wash, not only does it smell great, it has great antibacterial properties. Lavender and grapefruit is my fav combo to diffuse – great for decreasing those stress hormones (hello healthy hormones), while the citrus gives those uplifting feels.
3. Soap berries: I’ll admit, I was skeptical, but these little berries are the bomb diggity! They even clean hubby’s work clothes! We throw in a few drops of eucalyptus and lavender oil for an extra scent, but honestly you don’t need them! These berries are 100% natural and you get 5 washes out of each little sachet. They even come with 2 cute little bags to put them in, then once you are done, empty the bag and pop the berries in the compost. Now you cannot get any more natural than that!

To get your hands on these goodies, head to your local health food store or online at Nourished Life or my new fav B-corp site, Biome.
