Carb Timing

The metabolism hack no one told you about.

Carbs are NOT the enemy....

For years we've been told to fear carbohydrates...

Low carb...

No carb...

Earn your carbs before you're "allowed" to eat them...

But here's what none of that advice tells you: cutting carbohydrates at the wrong time can work directly against your energy, your hormones and your mood.

Timing counts!

This isn't about eating more carbohydrates or fewer of them. It's about eating them at the right times, so your body can actually put them to use.

Having "high energy" carbs before and after your workouts supports your energy, your performance and your recovery, and it helps support lean muscle too.

When we under-carb

Undereating carbohydrates at the wrong time doesn't just leave you tired. It can raise cortisol, disrupt sleep, tank your energy and performance, and increase cravings.

Does any of that sound familiar? If it does, it's not a willpower problem. It's a timing problem.

The framework

There are two simple pieces to this.

First, choose "high energy" carbs in the window around your training, roughly 30 minutes before a workout and within two hours of finishing one. Think bananas, dates, grains and potatoes.

Second, opt for "lower energy" carbs outside of that window. Berries, apples, cauliflower and pumpkin.

The Takeaway

This is information for anyone wanting to optimise their metabolism and their performance. But the most important thing, always, is to enjoy food and see it as nourishment, not a number on the scales.
